Sustainability as a corporate value

As a family-run company, passing on its values and passion for coffee from generation to generation is particularly important to DINZLER Kaffeerösterei. This can only be guaranteed through sustainable action. For this reason, the coffee roastery aimed to carry out a comprehensive sustainability analysis in 2019. The company was looking for ways to measure and analyze the carbon footprint of its coffee roasting plant and find ways to offset emissions.

At the beginning, DINZLER Kaffeerösterei AG was unsure how to effectively measure the carbon footprint of its coffee roasting plant, especially when it came to collecting and analyzing the relevant data. The challenge was to find a partner who understood the specific requirements of their production and could offer flexible solutions.

This is where Code Gaia’s CEO, Markus Adler, came into play. Living not far from the roastery in Irschenberg, Upper Bavaria, his creative ideas and pragmatic suggestions for improving and managing the roastery’s CO₂ accounting quickly won the company over.
Another advantage was the regional connection and understanding of the specific requirements and characteristics of the business. DINZLER was looking for a provider with innovative ideas and strong local roots—Code Gaia fit this profile perfectly. The opportunity to leverage and expand local networks further convinced DINZLER, making the roastery one of Code Gaia’s first clients.

Tailored solutions, personalized support

DINZLER particularly values the collaboration with Code Gaia for its flexibility and tailored approach to meeting their needs. This method, which builds on DINZLER’s existing processes and data, required minimal additional effort in data collection and processing.

Markus and his team proactively addressed DINZLER’s concerns, asked targeted questions about their needs, and offered clear suggestions on how they could achieve their goals. DINZLER particularly appreciated this personalized commitment and the tailored solutions, considering it the greatest added value of their collaboration with Code Gaia.

Code Gaia significantly eased the workload for DINZLER by requiring very little additional data collection. This substantially reduced the effort and eliminated the need to implement complex new processes or additional data-gathering measures.

Code Gaia also advises DINZLER Kaffeerösterei on selecting suitable CO₂ certificates to offset emissions from the roastery. Since 2019, all residual emissions have been offset through certificates, following the principle of supporting high-quality climate protection projects in coffee-growing countries.

Gas consumption saved

Through its collaboration with Code Gaia, DINZLER was able not only to measure its carbon footprint but also to identify efficient ways to reduce it.

In 2021, the company carried out a comprehensive modernization of its machinery.

By utilizing more efficient roasters, the company managed to reduce gas consumption by 17%.

This impressive improvement was directly reflected in the recorded CO₂ emissions and was visually presented on the Code Gaia dashboard.

Although the direct production process is already optimized, DINZLER continues to work on sustainable solutions, such as heat recovery during the roasting process. This innovative measure aims to ensure that the heat generated during roasting is utilized within the company rather than being wasted.

The partnership evolved into a long-term relationship built on trust and professional collaboration. For over three years now, DINZLER has been preparing a DNK report in collaboration with the software solution from Code Gaia.
