Seibert Group GmbH, an innovative IT services company based in Wiesbaden, has placed a strong focus on sustainability in recent years. In this case study, you can find out how Code Gaia has helped the company with its COâ‚‚ accounting, double materiality analysis and thus ESRS-compliant ESG reporting.
BACKGROUND
First steps: employees as the driving force
The Seibert Group’s journey towards greater sustainability began with the initiative of committed employees who wanted to integrate more sustainable practices into the company. This intrinsic interest led the company to take a closer look at various providers for carbon accounting and ESG reporting. Ultimately, the Seibert Group chose Code Gaia because their digital solution best met the company’s needs and allowed for simple and scalable data processing.
The joint work began with the preparation of the COâ‚‚ balance sheets for 2021 and 2022. First, data was exported from the accounting system and uploaded to the Code Gaia platform. This approach enabled an initial rough balance sheet to be drawn up. For the 2022 balance sheet, the data could already be prepared in much more detail by importing invoice data and more precise results were obtained, which formed a solid basis for further work.

For us, the topic of sustainability came directly from our employees. Without a clear business case, we said: we want to become more sustainable. With Code Gaia, we were able to professionalize the process and approach our goals strategically.

CODE GAIA’S SOLUTION
Challenges in data collection
At the beginning of their journey, those responsible at Seibert faced various challenges. The company had little experience in preparing greenhouse gas balances and the relevant data was spread across different systems. The manual effort required for data collection and evaluation was also high, which made it difficult to develop a systematic climate strategy. These challenges made it clear that an effective and scalable solution was needed.
Successful implementation of the double materiality analysis
In order to meet the requirements of the CSRD, the Seibert Group also successfully implemented its double materiality analysis with the support of Code Gaia. At the beginning, a well-founded stakeholder analysis was carried out jointly in order to identify and systematically evaluate the most important target groups. Targeted workshops were used to address and involve relevant stakeholders, which laid the foundation for further analysis. The key impacts as well as financial risks and opportunities were then identified. Code Gaia’s intuitive software solution helped the Seibert Group to carry out comprehensive data collection and analysis and to incorporate feedback from all relevant groups. Thanks to the user-friendly technology, the Seibert Group was able to complete the double materiality analysis efficiently and securely, creating a solid foundation and prerequisites for CSRD-compliant reporting.
Effort reduction and efficient preparation of a sustainability report
The collaboration between Seibert and Code Gaia has triggered several positive developments. Automated data collection has significantly reduced manual effort and improved the accuracy of COâ‚‚ balancing. Based on this data, Seibert has developed a climate strategy and defined targets as part of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). These include the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. In addition, a comprehensive sustainability report was produced for the first time, which will serve as the basis for communication with partners and customers in future.

Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us. It is part of our corporate strategy and our corporate culture.

PROCESS
Further developments and commitment at the Seibert Group
In parallel with its collaboration with Code Gaia, the Seibert Group has also driven forward its own sustainability initiatives. These include internal initiatives on topics such as balcony power plants and photovoltaic systems as well as an urban gardening project on the roof terrace of the office building. These projects show that sustainability at Seibert is not only measured, but actively practiced.
